Powys Teaching Health Board - 8 December 2020
Today marked the beginning of the process of vaccinating the people of Powys against COVID. After a year of incredibly difficult times for everyone, ‘V day’ or ’Vaccination Day’ has been a welcome light at the end of the tunnel for this pandemic.
There are a huge number of people who have been involved to get us to this point, most of whom work for the health board. But today we have also seen incredible support from the community with a small army of volunteers helping to ensure that those coming for vaccination know where they are going, what they need to do, and generally helping to ensure that the process of vaccinating hundreds of people each day here in Powys is as smooth as it can possibly be.
Gail and Gavin are just two of the amazing volunteers, organised by PAVO, who have been helping today. Gail explained “We all want to get through this as quickly as possible so that we can return to normal. The more people that can help make that happen, the better. I’ve been helping greet people as they arrive and complete their paperwork to make the system as smooth as possible, and entertain people as they wait. Everyone is really positive, they are all over the moon that we are at this point.”
Gavin has been helping ensure people arrive and park in the right place to make sure they can get to the vaccination centre quickly and those still working at the hospital can carry on. “Everyone has been really friendly, it’s been a real pleasure to be able to help”
Bringing the COVID vaccine to the people of Powys is a huge and important task, and the health board is extremely grateful to the support of the many volunteers who have helped out throughout the pandemic. Thank you.
