Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations (PAVO) funds Delivery Partners across the County to provide localised volunteering support to organisations and individuals.
Clair Swales, Chief Executive Officer, said, “PAVO are pleased to announce that Ecodyfi will be our new delivery partner for volunteering in the Machynlleth area. This service has been provided for over 20 years by Community Action Machynlleth and District (CAMAD). We wish to express our huge thanks to CAMAD for all of their hard work over the years and hope as this mantle passes, it will continue to be successful and support the local community”.
Ecodyfi has taken on Sandra Bendelow to coordinate this service. She already knows many of the organisations that offer volunteering opportunities, having worked on the community planning exercise ‘Dyfodol Dyfi’ last year. This revealed that some existing groups would be more effective if they had more volunteers, and also that new services could be set up locally through Wales-wide organisations if local people were to get involved.
Ecodyfi Manager Andy Rowland said he was pleased that ecodyfi has been able to step in to provide this service. “Volunteering plays an important role in supporting people’s well-being, community activities and the health of the environment, as do statutory services. And volunteers themselves often say they benefit from the satisfaction, social connections and learning they gain.”
Potential volunteers and user groups are welcome to contact Sandra through GwirDyfiVol(at)gmail.com or the ecodyfi office number 01654 703965. There is also a facebook page called ‘Gwirfoddoli Dyfi Volunteering’ and further information on www.ecodyfi.wales/community-info.
