Back off Elvis, Powys isn't Lonely at Christmas.

Elvis may have crooned about being lonely at Christmas but as we fast approach Christmas day, it's reassuring to know that there's no need for people living in Powys' communities to be lonely, or spend the day in isolation.

Christmas is a time that many of us spend with family and friends, a time of coming together and sharing collective experiences. However for those people who are alone at Christmas it can be a difficult and depressing ordeal where feelings of loneliness and isolation can be more poignantly felt. As part of a recent collaboration with the PTHB Palliative Care Team, looking at a good grief strategy to help people that are bereaved, we decide to investigate what was available to people in Powys who are on their own this Christmas.

The results were overwhelming and uplifitng to realise that there is abundant support throughout Powys for people who are by themselves this Christmas. We discovered 16 different events, from the North to the South, some of them catering for up to 100 people, many of them collaborative events with different organisations, churches and volunteers.

We've listed these events on our Mental Health Events Calendar  for you to share with people in the community in need of some support at Christmas.

There's also a useful and informative blog post about loneliness and isolation at Christmas, "Christmas is upon us! Let's spread the love,"

It's good to know that throughout Powys there really is no need for anyone to be lonely this Christmas.
