Victim Support Launch Hate Crime Charter

The Charter lays out in detail the rights of victims, and the responsibilities of organisations playing a part in tackling hate crime, providing support and information for victims, raising awareness of hate crime within agencies and the communities they work with.

Victim Support have launched the first Hate Crime charter, helping to combat prejuduce and reduce hate related crime. They're looking for organisations to pledge their support by signing up to the charter and have this to say about its relevance -

"In the Charter we’ve brought to the forefront the rights of victims and communities when they experience hate crimes and incidences. It lays out in detail the rights of victims, and the responsibilities of organisations playing a part in tackling hate crime, providing support and information for victims, raising awareness of hate crime within agencies and the communities they work with.

The charter – sets out how we will always work on behalf of and in the best interests of victims and communities, treating them with respect and in confidence.

Organisations that adopt the charter are committing to ensuring that all staff and volunteers are all expected to abide by the charter’s promises whenever they come into contact with those affected by hate crime and work on building cohesive communities and inclusive environments.

Compiled with the experiences of service users and what matters to them the seven points are aimed to ensure that victims of hate crime and communities have:

  • The right to be heard
  • The right to report Hate Crime
  • The right to free and confidential support
  • The right to be treated with respect
  • The right to privacy
  • The right to information
  • The right to make a complaint

We hope to help make a more equal, safe and inclusive Wales for communities and individuals."

The Charter has officially launched this week as part of  Hate Crime Awareness Week, to become an early adopter of the Charter please add your organisation's details on the link below :
