GamCare have been working hard as an organisation and across the Women’s Programme, to mobilise a response that ensures they can continue to deliver services across all departments.

GamCare Training Offer   - Problem Gambling and Hidden Harm for Women.

GamCare are currently providing online awareness training, which is presented via zoom.  If your staff are currently working from home this is an ideal opportunity for your organisation to benefit from the 2.00  hour session.  If you are interested please contact Urtha Felda to discuss how this can be facilitated

Course Content

The sessions include:

  • Understanding problem gambling and gambling related harm.
  • Risks, triggers, and indicators.
  • How this impacts on women as gamblers and as affected otehrs.
  • How to refer to free counselling.

Currently the number of women gambling is rising, and is also impacted by the C-19 crisis as people are at home and gambling more frequently.  Women are not coming forward for help.

This project is funded by the Tampax Tax Fund and is aimed at raising awareness for professionals working in housing, support, and other related areas.  But also gambling affects many people  - this could be a friend or a colleague.

An update on their response to Covid-19 can be found here and there’s further information below:

  • National Gambling Helpline: this is operating 24/7 as usual. We are running additional chat rooms online and are encouraging use of chat and forums to reduce isolation. Whilst this hasn’t happened to date, we anticipate an escalation in calls as people spend more time at home. We are training additional staff from other areas of service to support the helpline if needed, and some of our partners are supporting this too, particularly in facilitating chat rooms
  • Treatment Services: these are running as usual but have moved to video link and telephone support, which has been well received by our users. We have contacted all current clients and those who have completed treatment in the last 3 months to remind them of the support available, both from their worker and online. We have had no issues in moving people to home working and are confident that sessions are still offered in a confidential manner. We will start to promote our ‘Game Change’ computerised treatment programme, as it is well suited to the current times
