The Vinehill Trust makes grants to charitable, educational and ecclesiastical organisations across the United Kingdom in the following three areas:

1. Health – including overlooked/underfunded areas and projects that use music, nature conservation and traditional building crafts as a means of enhancing physical and mental health.
2. Heritage (most of the Trust’s funding is awarded against its heritage priority) – built heritage, including projects that involve training in heritage craft skills, and
3. Music – including projects involving children and young people that further the choral and/or organ traditions.

The Trust typically awards one-off grants of £10,000 to £100,000, although it will occasionally offer up to £100,000 per annum for a maximum of 3 years. Grants tend to be relative to the applicants’ overall turnover and to the Trust’s available resources. The Trust will also consider applications for emergency funding, although this is usually in exceptional circumstances and only when it is satisfied that robust management structures are in place to ensure that the Trust’s funding generates long-term value.

The Trust is particularly interested in supporting organisations that can evidence that they are:

o Are lean and focused.
o Well governed and managed.
o Have good finance and risk management systems,
and
o Have the necessary skills and expertise to deliver their objectives.

During the year ended 30th June 2023, the Trust awarded 12 grants totalling £28,758,140, categorised as follows:

o Health: £1,748,972.
o Heritage: £25,984,763.
o Music: £1,024,505.

Grants awarded were generally for established organisations with significant scope and turnover, such as the Commonwealth Heritage Forum, English Heritage and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

A list of all major grant recipients over the last two years is available on page 15 of the Trust’s annual accounts.

Funding is not available for:

o Campaigning and lobbying work
o Capital appeals for construction projects.
o Core running costs.
o Endowments.
o Individuals.
o Organisations based outside of the United Kingdom.
o Organisations which have applied and been rejected within the last twelve months.
o Proposals outside of the Trust’s three priority areas of health, heritage and music.
o Retrospective funding.
o Statutory organisations or where there is a reasonable expectation of public funding.
o To support the grant programmes of other organisations,
or
o Where beneficiaries are selected by race or ethnicity, unless there is an evidenced rationale (for example a demonstrable disposition in a particular group to a specific medical condition).
