Powys Groups awarded funding

Third sector organisations in Powys have been awarded funding to help support vulnerable people through the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of £26,591 raised through the Comic Relief Big Night In has been allocated by PAVO to nine organisations from all areas of the county.

Third sector organisations in Powys have been awarded funding to help support vulnerable people through the COVID-19 pandemic.

A total of £26,591 raised through the Comic Relief Big Night In has been allocated by PAVO to nine organisations from all areas of the county.

 

The funding criteria included meeting at least one of the four Comic Relief aims of:

  • Children Survive and Thrive Actions to give children the best start in life and access to opportunities to achieve their potential
  • Justice Actions Gender to improve equality for Women and Girls 
  • A Safe Place to be Actions to help vulnerable people improve circumstances and safety 
  • Mental Health Matters Actions to enable access to support and increase awareness 

 

The organisations benefiting include;

  • Ystradgynlais WI to purchase equipment to provide on-line meetings and sound equipment to maintain social distancing
  • East Radnor Day Centre to provide a meals on wheels service, prescription delivery and welfare telephone calls
  • Erwood Pit Stop Trust to provide and maintain a public toilet in the village of Erwood on the A470 trunk road
  • Kaleidoscope to provide outdoor sessions in the Machynlleth area for people with drug, alcohol and mental health issues
  • Caersws Village Hall prepare the village hall for safe use to comply with COVID-19 safety requirements
  • Dementia Matters in Powys organising county wide ‘ Stepping Out’ engagement sessions for people living with dementia, their loved ones and their carers
  • Knighton Community Centre and Library Friends prepare Knighton Community Centre for safe use to comply with COVID-19 safety requirements
  • Celf your Health DJ workshops for young people from the Newtown area
  • Dyfoddol Powys Futures supporting venerable young men ( 16-25) from North Powys who are unemployed and in danger of substance misuse and homelessness.
