PAVO celebrates Volunteers’ Week

Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations (PAVO) is thanking volunteers across Powys for their amazing contribution to the community, by launching the “Powys Volunteer of the Year” nominations during Volunteers’ Week, which runs from 1-7 June.

Nominate a Volunteer.

PAVO supports voluntary sector organisations and helps them to improve people’s lives. If you know someone who has gone the extra mile over the last year in a volunteering role, why not nominate them for an award? https://www.pavo.org.uk/help-for-organisations/volunteers/powys-volunteer-of-the-year-awards.html

Volunteers in Powys

Carl Cooper, CEO of PAVO, says, “Volunteers in Powys have always made an essential contribution to the wellbeing of people and communities, and to the enhancement of public services. The last year has made this more apparent and demonstrated that volunteers are often in the vanguard of keeping people safe, well and healthy. The strengthened partnership between the voluntary sector, the County Council and the Health Board has enabled the fabulous achievements that continue to combat the ravages of a global pandemic. We are deeply grateful to all volunteers for their selfless and generous service to others.”

Very few of the 3000+ voluntary organisations in Powys could operate without their volunteer trustees, officers and workers. Volunteers are a core part of Powys communities, making a difference by driving, cooking, chatting, delivering essential items, providing online wellbeing sessions and checking that no one is forgotten. Volunteers also do valuable fundraising in many innovative ways, even during covid.

Volunteers Week

Volunteers Week is an annual campaign, established in 1984, which recognises the contribution volunteers make to our communities every day. This year, thanking volunteers is even more heartfelt.

During the week, PAVO will share messages to thank their volunteers and celebrate the power of volunteering to bring communities together and to be there in times of need.

The Volunteering Wales website shows the range of volunteering opportunities on offer across Powys  and Wales. You can see what is available by visiting www.volunteering-wales.net.

Powys Volunteer Centre officers are also available to provide support  if  people are interested in volunteering.
