Exploring Well-being with People who need Care and Support in Wales

Swansea University is looking to talk to people aged over 18 who are using social care services in Wales.

This is part of a research study about people’s experiences of using social care in the last few years.

We’ve listed out some common questions you may have and given answers to help you decide if you’d like to take part.

What is the purpose of the study?

In 2016 new laws came into force in Wales to change the way that social care works and what care and support focuses on.

An important part of this was a new focus on the ‘well-being’ of people using social care services.

All social care services are now supposed to be focused on improving the well-being of people who access them, while still keeping them safe and physically well.

In this study we would like to know what you think about your care and support being focused on well-being.

We would also like to know whether the ways well-being is being measured make sense to you.

We would like to know about your general experiences of social care since the new laws took force in 2016.

Why am I being asked to take part?

We wish to speak with people who need care and support and receive social care services under the new laws.

The purpose of these interviews is to understand what people in this group think about well-being and how it is measured.

What we learn will help us to evaluate how well the new laws are working for people in Wales.

What happens if I agree to take part?

You will be offered to speak to us, face-to-face or by phone, at a date and time that suits you.

When we talk to each other, we will go through the study with you and ask you to fill in a consent form.

We will then talk about your views of well-being and social care.

Everything you say during our talk will be kept between you and the research team.

If you agree, your interview will be audio-recorded and later transcribed. This allows the researcher to focus fully on you during the interview. You will be free to stop at any point during our talk.

How long will the meeting take?

The times vary for each person we talk to, but we expect most meetings to take about one hour or less.
