Overview

Are you passionate about widening access to healthcare services? Could you support people to take advantage of the opportunities provided by expanding patient video consultations – especially those who are currently digitally at a disadvantage? If you are experienced in recruiting and supporting volunteers and have good project management and IT skills then this role could be for you.


Job Purpose

This post is funded by Powys Teaching Health Board Charitable Funds Committee, and is based in Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations (PAVO) to enhance the experience of patients using the "Attend Anywhere" video consultations. The project will widen access to services by establishing Support Hubs in accessible locations, where technically skilled volunteers will be available virtually and face to face to support patients with their arranged video consultation appointment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with all PAVO services (particularly the Community Connectors) to initiate the project 
  • Work with Powys Library Service and other community-based venues to identify suitable locations in North Powys
  • Establish Support Hubs in appropriate venues in accessible community settings, ensuring adequate IT resources and support for a positive patient experience
  • Recruit and support a minimum of 10 PAVO volunteers with a weekly timetable of support and be their main contact.
  • Ensure volunteers receive relevant induction, training and regular support 
  • Promote the initiative 
  • Gather, present and analyse data for monitoring and evaluation purposes

Main Duties

The Volunteer Coordinator will: 

  • Locate potential community venues in North Powys to hold patient video consultations - Using the knowledge of the local Community Connectors and by linking with Powys Library Service 
  • Establish hubs in suitable locations – ensuring each location is suitably equipped and meets required standards 
  • Recruit, train and support a minimum of 10 PAVO volunteers 
  • Ensure volunteer cover is provided at the hubs to meet service requirements 
  • Create a booking system so patients can pre-book either virtual support or face to face support at the hub 
  • Maintain close liaison with PAVO/volunteers/Venues to ensure service operates effectively 
  • Inform stakeholders of initiative – including Health & Social Care Professionals 
  • Use a range of digital and print media to promote across Community settings and the wider public
  • Establish a system to gather feedback from both patients and professionals 
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records of service statistics, ensuring that all information is kept up to date in accordance with PAVO and Powys Teaching Health Board requirements and that objectives and results are achieved within the agreed budget. 
  • Provide regular updates for Powys Teaching Health Board on project progress 
  • Undertake a 6-month review of pilot, to inform future planning 
  • Work with colleagues across PAVO to support a co-ordinated approach to volunteering service delivery

Salary:

£19,883 for 9 months (£26,511 pro rata 12 months)

Hours of Work

35 hours per week

Probationary Period

The appointment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a period of probationary service of 3 months.

Travel

PAVO pays all relevant travel at the current agreed mileage rate.

Holidays

19 days over 9 months (25 days per annum pro rata)

Pension Scheme

A contribution equal to 6% of salary will be made available to the PAVO Stakeholders Pension or to a Private Pension Scheme
