CAIS operates a mentoring service, providing a one to one mentoring support service for young people in Powys.

It is a voluntary scheme, which aims to assist in enabling young people to achieve their full potential.


Mentoring provides a one to one relationship that can help to divert young people away from negative influences and provide them with opportunities for success.

Volunteer Role Description

 

Role Title Volunteer Mentor

Department Powys Young Persons’ Substance Misuse Service

Base Location Various Across Powys

Hours of Volunteering Various

Accountable To Project Manager

Reports To Project Coordinator


Role Purpose:

 To provide one to one support and encouragement to young people misusing substances, at risk of substance misuse, who have familial substance misuse.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 To provide support and guidance to all participants being referred onto the project
 To be available to meet regularly on a one-to-one basis with mentees as identified and agreed with the project manager.
 To work with the Project Manager in achieving positive outcomes for participants
 Record all activities in compliance with CAIS regulations
 To work closely with the administration staff and provide information and data as required for reporting purposes
 Keep accurate records in accordance with CAIS policies

General:

 To respect confidentiality at all times
 To be non-judgmental
 To communicate skillfully and sensitively, taking into account any barriers to communication
 Excellent listening skills
 To be able and willing to work within given boundaries
 To refer clients to other services within the partnership and other external agencies as appropriate
 To report any concerns regarding the Service User to your Line Manager
 To be accountable for own decisions and actions in consultation with Project manager andsupervision.
 To attend relevant meetings, undertake administrative tasks and reports as required.
 Own transport desirable

Professional:

 To participate in the CAIS core training
 To attend regular supervisions
 To operate within and observe CAIS policies and procedures
