Homes & Safer Communities / 3 Spilman Street, Carmarthen

Community Cohesion Officer x 2
(Temporary until 31/03/2021 due to Grant Funding)

£24,799 - £28,785 (Grade G)

The Community Office post is funded by an allocated fund from Welsh Government to provide support and advice to Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys County Councils. The posts is hosted by Carmarthenshire County Council.

An exciting opportunity exists to be one of two new Community Cohesion Officers working in a team managed by the Regional Community Cohesion Co-ordinator. The new Community Cohesion Officers will cover two counties each. One officer will cover Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, the other will cover Ceredigion and Powys. Carmarthenshire County Council will administer the posts. There will be an opportunity for the successful applicants to work from a base in one of the four counties that make up the region,  depending whether they are appointed to cover Powys and Ceredigion or Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire

This is an exciting opportunity to engage with local people and community groups as part of the delivery of the regional community cohesion plan. Community Cohesion is a term to describe how everyone in a geographical area lives alongside each other with mutual understanding and respect. We live in increasingly diverse communities which face challenges due to economic migration, intergenerational differences, the impact of poverty and the growing influence of extremism. The post will work within the West Wales region to support local authorities (and work with other partner organisations) to mainstream community cohesion across policy and service delivery areas.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, determined and confident person who has the ability and skills to engage with diverse groups, promote community cohesion and support community activities. You will need to develop strong and effective partnerships and demonstrate the ability to promote and empower communities. You’ll be an excellent team player with the ability to work effectively with partner organisations and confident in your approach.

The post is offered on a fixed term contract (expires March 2021) or as a secondment working for Carmarthenshire County Council. Job Shares will be considered.

Conversational Welsh is required to accomplish this post. Support can be provided on appointment to reach this level.

For an informal discussion please contact Kay Howells on 01267 228930 (ext 4453) or 07867 143719.
