Offering Services in Welsh: How, When & Why?

Course Aims

Are you currently unable to offer your services in Welsh?

Do you wait until Welsh is requested by a client or volunteer?

Are you assuming there is no demand for Welsh because noone has asked for it?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then this workshop is for you!

Course Content

The provision of services in Welsh can make a huge difference to Welsh speaking clients, especially when dealing with personal issues such as mental and physical health or the family. Yet many people will not feel confident to ask for the service in Welsh and may either remain uncomfortable, or stop using the service altogether.

This workshop will focus on the Welsh Government's 'Active Offer' strategy, which simply means providing a service in Welsh without someone having to ask for it. The strategy aims to create a change in culture and practice that takes the responsibility off the service user to ask for a service through the medium of Welsh.

The workshop will look at the practicalities and the benefits of actively offering services in Welsh. For example, providing services in Welsh can significantly enhance the reputation of your organisation amongst Welsh speakers and attract a more locally representative range of clients and volunteers.

The session will also help you to start develop an action plan for improving your provision of Welsh language services.
