Funder: The Rank Foundation Limited (founded 1953. Charity number: 276976. Total Pebble Grants allocated during the financial year ending 31 December 2017: £360,000).

A reminder of the Rank Foundation’s accessible small grants programme, which in 2017 awarded 213 grants to UK charities totalling £360,000.

The Pebbles Grants programme offers small grants up to £7,500 (although in actuality grants are for £1,000 or less) for smaller UK registered charities and churches that are raising money for local projects where the total project cost is less than £1 million. The programme is aimed at supporting small capital projects (aimed at encouraging the wider community use of buildings) and holiday grants for those organisations working with the seriously ill and the disadvantaged. Applicants must have an annual income of under £500,000.

Grants can be used for (please note that each of these categories has a separate application process):

Capital costs –fixed, one-time expenses incurred on the purchase of land, buildings, construction, and equipment, or
Short breaks – respite breaks for seriously ill and/or disadvantaged children or adults, and short-term activities or programmes.

There is a match funding requirement for this programme – applicants are expected to have already raised 33% of the total project cost.

Funding is not available for:

o Running costs or salaries.
o Any projects that take place outside the UK.
o Projects for the benefit of visitors to the UK.
o Projects that are for the benefit of only one ethnic or religious group; facilities must be open to the wider community.
o Causes supported elsewhere by the Rank Foundation. This includes hospices, mainstream schools, specific individuals and film-making,
or
o Areas that are under the provision of state aid, such as medical requirements.

Please note that there are separate online application forms for capital projects and short breaks. Both are available on the Foundation’s website.

Applications may be made at any time.
