The objectives of the Hobson Charity Limited are:
o The relief of poverty, suffering and distress among the aged, impotent and poor inhabitants of the United Kingdom and the provision of facilities for recreation and other leisure time occupation for them generally interests of their social welfare within the meaning of the, now repealed, Recreational Charities Act 1958 and as therein limited;
o The advancement of education amongst the inhabitants of the United Kingdom generally
o The furtherance of such other charitable purposes beneficial to such communities of the United Kingdom charity may think fit: and
o To make grants to such associations, trusts, societies or corporations as are established for charitable purposes.
The Charity funds a wide range of charitable causes. A list of 28 categories under which awards were made in the financial year ending 31 March 2018 can be found on page 3 of the Charity’s annual accounts.
There are no minimum or maximum grant award levels. While awards can be as high as £500,000, the vast majority of grants awarded are for less than £10,000.

There is a match funding expectation. Applicants will be required to demonstrate that they have sought funds from other sources.
Grants are very occasionally awarded to individuals. However, these tend to be in extremely exceptional circumstances.
