The Gannett Foundation provides grant funding for practical and creative projects to UK registered charities that are working to bring lasting benefits and provide a legacy to the communities and neighbourhoods served by the Foundation’s newspapers and online audience. Typical areas of funding include:
o Economic development.
o Youth development.
o Neighbourhood improvement.
o Arts and culture.
o The elderly and infirm.
o People who are disadvantaged and/or disabled, and
o Environmental improvements.
Although there are no minimum or maximum award levels, most grants awards tend to be within the range of £1,000 to £9,000.
Good local projects that can demonstrate good planning and financial accountability will be prioritised.
The general application deadline for the Foundation is midday on Friday 18 October 2019. However, charities interested in applying are strongly advised to check their local newspaperfor the deadline for their area, as this may vary.
Successful applicants are expected to be notified by 31 January 2020.
Applicants must supply copies of their most recent accounts (where required by the Charities Commission) or other appropriate financial information, together with any supporting materials and details of their organisation’s managing committee.
The Trustees will meet to make awards at the end of November 2019. Only successful applicants will be notified. Groups that have not heard by the end of January 2020 should assume they have not been successful.
Applications must be made locally by downloading an application form from the Foundation's website, where further information about the grant programme can also be found.
Completed applications should be sent by email or post to the editor of the applicant's local paper.
