Sports Wales Be Active Fund

Sports Wales are replacing their Community Chest and Sports Development Grants and focussing their support on helping groups restart sports activities in their communities.

They have introduced two strands of funding to Protect and Prepare the clubs and community organisations that help people be active and take part in sport.

1. Protect which is aimed at helping safeguard the future of sports clubs who have lost income through COVID-19. The fund can be used to pay overheads such as insurance, rent, maintenance. The minimum amount that can be applied for is £300 upto a maximum of £5000

2. Prepare which is to help organisations with running their activities in a safe way to comply with the COVID-19 guidelines for their particular sport as set by the relevant  National Governing Body plus any guidelines set by the local authority and Welsh Government. It is strongly advised that applicants speak to their NGB and LA  and check WG guidelines before submitting a bid to ensure what they are proposing complies with COVID rules. Examples of things that can be applied for include:-

  • PPE

  • extra equipment to allow for social distancing e.g more footballs if a club has to split into smaller groups to comply

  • Coach education to provide extra coaches to ensure group sizes are within permitted limits

  • Extra facility hire if this is required to comply with COVID rules

The activities that can be funded must be recognised as ‘sport’ by the Sports Council for Wales.

The minimum that can be applied for is £300 up to £50,000.

The above replace the Community Chest and any other SCW  Development Grants for the time being as their focus is COVID-19 related.
