"The Powys Community Cohesion Team are playing a significant role in ensuring that communities continue to live harmoniously in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and that any tensions which may be brewing are mitigated effectively before they have a chance to escalate.

Whilst we are aware that generally the public have rallied around the most vulnerable members of society, to provide invaluable help and support in these very challenging times, there is, sadly, always the potential for certain tensions to emerge.

We are particularly interested in being alerted to community tensions, hate incidents or any type of issues which may be causing frustration or annoyance in local communities.

We are able to offer advice, support and signposting to organisations that might be able to help further.

We have a  broad remit and many things can influence community cohesion – such as food bank distribution and availability, mental health issues and crime.

In addition, The Home Office and Welsh Government have tasked us with providing an overview of any tensions in communities. We are doing this by working closely with communities on a grass roots level, as well as linking in with the police and other organisations, so it is imperative that tensions are brought to our attention as soon as possible"

If you have any concerns regarding community tensions in your local area please email Sarah Bowen (The Powys Community Cohesion Officer) at slbowen(at)carmarthenshire.gov.uk or call 0758040012”
