The objectives of the Stanley Smith (UK) Horticultural Trust are:

o To promote horticulture.
o To promote the conservation of the physical and natural environment by promoting biological diversity.
o To promote the creation, development, preservation and maintenance of gardens accessible to the public, and
o The advancement of horticultural education.

The Trust achieves its objectives by making grants to organisations, institutions and individuals carrying out projects of significance to:

o Horticulture.
o Gardening, and
o Botany, with a strong horticultural element.

Typical projects funded by the Trust are (please note this is not an exclusive list):

o Developing new gardens for public access and enjoyment.
o Exhibitions, book publications, research and educational programmes relating to horticulture. 
o Expeditions to collect and protect plants of scientific and horticultural value.
o Gardeners’ training schemes run by appropriate organisations.
o Promotion and cultivation of new plants.
o Restoring gardens of historic interest, and
o Study-visits by horticulturists or botanists with strong horticultural links.

Please note that the Trust does not have a functioning UK website. Further information is, however, available on the Charity Commission website.

The Trust operates two applications each year, on 15 February and 15 August. The next application deadline is therefore Monday 15th August 2022.
