THE RYA FOUNDATION

Small grants are available to RYA affiliated sailing clubs in England, Scotland and Wales to promote participation in boating by people who are disadvantaged due to their youth, age, infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances.

o Application deadline: none - applications may be made at any time by application form.

 

o Who can apply: sailing clubs in England, Scotland and Wales that are affiliated to the RYA. Applicants can include registered charities, charitable companies or members-only clubs.

Grants can be used for:

1. Providing activities for children and young people aged 5-21, specifically to:
o Encourage the involvement in boating of pupils of schools which make provision for disadvantaged people.
o Encourage the involvement of young people in the sailing activities of mainstream organisations, 
and/or
o Encourage organisations for young people to develop sailing activities.

2. The provision of equipment, specifically:
o Boats and equipment.
o Items which increase opportunities for people to participate in boating.
o Minor adaptations to buildings, equipment, or boats to improve use by people with disabilities, 
and/or
o The provision of equipment for the use when boating of people with disabilities.

3. Training, specifically:
o Activities that raise members’ awareness of issues surrounding disability and other disadvantages affecting participation in boating.
o Activities that seek to increase the participation of disadvantaged people in assisting others to sail, 
and/or
o Activities that require the involvement of RYA-qualified instructors to increase on-water activity.

4. Volunteer recruitment, specifically:
o Activities that seek to increase the number and capacity of volunteers to assist with boating for disadvantaged people.

Funding is not available for:

o Activities or items which have been ordered or commenced before the date of the grant offer letter.
o Administration costs, travel expenses, subsistence, fees, maintenance, insurance, rental or value-added tax.
o Amounts that have already been spent.
o Appeals for general funds.
o Holidays.
o Items which would normally be provided by an organisation when discharging its duties under the Disability Discrimination Acts and the Building Regulations.
o Major building construction projects.
o Profit-making companies.
o Projects outside Great Britain.
o Statutory bodies.
o The purchase or maintenance of vehicles, 
or
o The replacement of statutory funding.
