THE PATAGONIA INTERNATIONAL EUROPEAN ENVIRONMENTAL GRANTS PROGRAMME

Grants of between $5,000 (£4,205) and $15,000 (£12,614) for small grassroots activist environmental organisations in the UK and the Republic of Ireland that are working to protect local habitats and frontline communities through bold, original actions.

o Who can apply: small, grassroots not-for-profit organisations carrying out environmental work in the UK or the Republic of Ireland.

The Patagonia International’s European Environmental Grants programme aims to support innovative work that:

1. Addresses the root causes of environmental crisis, and
2. Seeks to protect both the environment and affected communities.

Applications from risk-taking not-for-profit organisations that are operating at the fringes of society are welcomed.

Grants of between $5,000 (£4,205) and $15,000 (£12,614) are available. There is no matched funding requirement.

Grants are intended to:

o Encourage work that brings underrepresented communities to the forefront of the environmental movement and defend communities whose health and livelihoods are threatened by environmental exploitation, and
o Support multipronged campaigns that push for greater environmental protections and force the government to abide by its own laws.

Projects should:

o Be action-oriented.
o Build public involvement and civic engagement.
o Confront systemic bias, discrimination and injustice in environmental policy or outdoor spaces.
o Focus on root causes.
o Have a clear strategy.
o Identify specific goals and objectives that can be effectively measured to evaluate success.
o Take place within the United Kingdom or Ireland, 
and
o Work to build an equitable, inclusive and diverse environmental movement.

Funding is not available for:

o Any dam renovations, human-assisted fish passage infrastructure or hatchery programs.
o Bike advocacy, unless the project is in direct support of a climate change solution.
o Endowment funds.
o Environmental conferences.
o Event sponsorships or film festivals.
o Green building projects.
o Land acquisition or conservation easements.
o Political campaigns.
o Projects that are solely focused on environmental education.
o Organisations without a non-governmental status or a comparable fiscal sponsor.
o Research, unless it is in direct support of a developed plan for specific action to alleviate an environmental problem, 
or
o Trail creation, maintenance or restoration.

To apply, not-for-profits should initially complete the Eligibility Quiz (click on 'Apply' at the foot of the "How We Fund" page to access the quiz) on Patagonia’s website. Eligible applicants will then be invited to complete an application form.

The application deadline is Friday 30th September 2022. Applicants should expect to hear whether their grant proposal has been successful by the end of December 2022.
