THE MASONIC CHARITABLE FOUNDATION CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE SMALL AND LARGE GRANT PROGRAMME

Grants of between £1,000 and £60,000 are available for up to 3 years to registered charities in England and Wales for projects that enable disadvantaged and vulnerable children & young people (aged up to 18 years or up to 25 years for disabled young people) to overcome the barriers they face in life.

o Who can apply: registered charities in England and Wales with an annual income of under £500,000 for Small Grants and over £500,000 for Large Grants.

The Masonic Charitable Foundation’s Children and Young People Grant programme offers small and large grants over 1-3 years to registered charities in England and Wales to create the best start in life for disadvantaged children and young people aged up to 18, or aged up to 25 for young people and young adults with a disability.

Applications are now open for the Children and Young People Large and Small Grant Programmes to help disadvantaged children and young people to overcome the challenges they face.

The following grants are available:

1. Small Grants: grants of between £1,000 and £5,000 for a period of 1-3 years are available to charities with an income of under £500,000. Small grants can be used for general running and/or overhead costs of the charity, or
2.
 Large grants: grants of between £10,000 and £60,000 (with the occasional higher award) for charities with an income exceeding £500,000. Large grants are specifically for projects and can be used for salary costs, activities and materials.

Grants are only made to charities whose beneficiaries are in England and Wales. Charities must be registered with the Charity Commission or relevant central registry of the respective Guernsey, Jersey or Isle of Man’s government. Charities must also have at least one year of independently examined or audited accounts published on the Charity Commission website for the registered charity they are applying on behalf of.

Grants can be offered to charities/projects that provide:

o Learning and development, including language and communication skills, social and emotional etc.
o Mental and physical health support.
o Pastoral and advocacy support, 
and/or
o Support for the whole family.

Some examples of desirable short-term and long-term outcomes of the programme are:

1. Short term

o Age-appropriate skills developed by the time children get to school or young people enter their first jobs.
o Children and young people acquire greater knowledge about their rights, options and opportunities.
o Children and young people are more engaged in physical and social activities through sports and social clubs.
o Children and young people have greater access to physical, psychological and emotional support
o Children and young people living in a healthy and stable environment
o Children and young people receive more opportunities to access education and training, 
and
o Existing services better supporting the physical, psychological and emotional needs of children and young people.

2. Long term

o Children and young people having the best start in life no matter what their circumstances.
o Equal opportunities for all children and young people regardless of ability or background.
o Improved health and wellbeing for children and young people, 
and
o Stable, healthy and supported family networks.
