Somerset-based, independent grant-making charity, the J A Clark Trust (the JAC Trust) provides a limited number of grants to non-profit organisations that are:

1. Supporting people who are forcibly displaced, and
2. Positively addressing climate change.

The Trust provides multi-year grant funding to large and small registered charities, Non-Governmental Organisation (NGOs) and established social enterprises. Preference is given to initiatives that foster, or already demonstrate, a positive engagement between the displaced and host communities.

Multi-year grants of up to £60,000 in total are available, although in actuality annual grants rarely exceed £25,000. Grants are available over 1-3 years.

Applying organisations must be able to demonstrate a strong connection to the communities they’re working with and have an annual income of under £10 million.

Proposals must meet all three of the following objectives:

1. Deliver tangible improvements in the quality of life of the people we work with,
2. Have a positive impact on the natural environment (protection or restoration),
and
3. Focus on one forcibly displaced people and their host communities.

Funding is not available for:

o Academic research.
o Core costs alone (but we are happy to pay an appropriate share of core costs).
o Emergency relief.
o Individuals.
o Organisations with an annual income of more than £10 million.
o Research,
 or
o The promotion of religious causes.

The Trust uses a two-stage application process. All applications are submitted through an online system that opens 4 weeks before the application deadline.

The Stage 1 form collects basic information on the applying organisation and asks three questions:

1. What is the problem you want to address?
2. What will you do?
3. What result do you expect?

A small number of organisations will be asked to submit a full proposal by completing the Stage 2 form. This form requests more detail on the work to be undertaken and how, including the applying organisation’s monitoring framework. A copy of the applicant’s accounts, annual report and safeguarding policy.

Further information, guidance and the online application process is available on the Trust's website.
