The Hamish Ogston Foundation is a recently founded family grant-making charity with just two trustees, Hamish Ogston CBE and Isabella Ogston. The Foundation supports projects in the areas of health, heritage and music in the UK and abroad, as follows:

Health – the Foundation supports those working towards eliminating the disparities in both access to medical treatment and health awareness amongst the most disadvantaged sections of society.
Heritage – the Foundation supports those preserving buildings and craftsmanship, many of which house important historic traditions, and
Music – the Foundation supports those maintaining the UK's great musical traditions, together with their associated training programmes, both in and outside of the UK.

Grants are awarded against 4 key underlying criteria:

1. Encouraging an Entrepreneurial Mindset — the Foundation looks to secure the long-term sustainability of the initiatives it supports, constantly striving to create a 'best in class' philanthropy for all its chosen projects. Where appropriate, it seeks to support charitable projects that also deliver sustainable apprenticeships and employment.
2.
Maximising the Benefit — when agreeing projects' objectives and goals, the Foundation offers commercially minded input from the outset to ensure that no money is wasted. The Foundation wants to ensure that its donations are used cost-effectively, aiming to achieve the best possible chance for a transformational outcome.
3.
Addressing the North-South Divide — the Foundation aspires to help rebalance the economic divide between the South of England and the rest of the UK. Its grant support is therefore more focused on projects north of the line from the River Severn to The Wash.
4.
Easy to Measure Outcomes — having measurable outcomes that are easily monitored will ensure projects have a visible and lasting difference.

Grants tend to start at £1.5 million, although smaller awards are also made. During the year ended 30 June, the Foundation made 16 grants totalling £6,370,314 against the following headings:

o Health: £31,719.
o Heritage: £5,558,195and
o Music: £780,400.

To apply, eligible organisations should submit an outline application in writing, providing basic information about the organisation, its proposed activities and a project budget.
The Foundation will then invite selected applicants to complete a full application form.

Further information, guidance and details about the application process can be found on the Foundation’s website.

Applications may be made at any time.
