The Astor Foundation provides small grants for UK registered charities. Its primary area of interest is medical research on a broad front rather than in specialised fields. This can include general medical equipment or equipment for use in research, or grants to cover travelling and subsistence expenses for doctors and students studying abroad.
In general, the Foundation prefers to support the start-up and initial stages of new projects and filling in gaps/shortfalls.
In addition to its primary priority of medical research, the Foundation also supports projects that benefit:
o Children and youth groups.
o The disabled.
o The countryside.
o The arts.
o Sport.
o Carers groups, and
o Animal welfare.
UK registered charities may apply for a grant of between £250 and £1,500. Higher awards are occasionally made. There is no specified requirement for matched funding.
During the year ending 5 April 2021, the Foundation awarded 74 grants totalling £110,250, Awards ranged from £250 to £20,000.
