BEST BEGINNINGS: SAFER BEGINNINGS ONWARD GRANTS

A limited number of grants of up to £40,000 in England and £25,000 in Scotland and Wales are available for not-for-profit organisations to work with communities of women and girls who are at risk of, or living within, circumstances of violence and harm.

o Application deadline: THURSDAY 24th MARCH 2022 at 10.00am.

o Funder: The Department of Culture, Media and Sport (funding is being provided through the Tampon Tax Fund. The fund is being managed by Best Beginnings, a London-based charity (no. 1120054) which helps to educate and empower parents and parents-to-be, increasing their confidence, knowledge and skills to give their children the best start in life).

o Who can apply: registered charities, Community Interest Companies (CICs), not-for-profit groups and grassroots movements in England, Scotland and Wales.

Best Beginnings is inviting applications to its Safer Beginnings Onward Grant Programme to support women and girls across England, Scotland and Wales..

Grants are available for organisations working in England, Scotland, and Wales with a specialist knowledge of and who work with communities of women and girls at risk of, or living within, circumstances of violence and harm.

The Fund is open to charities, community interest companies, not-for-profit groups, and grassroots movements that can evidence appropriate financial management, governance, and safeguarding controls.

The following funding is available:

1. England: budget £100,000, from which 3 grants of between £15,000 and £40,000 are expected to be awarded.
2. 
Scotland: budget £25,000, from which 1-2 grants of between £10,000 and £25,000 are expected to be awarded.
3. 
Wales: budget £25,000, from which 1-2 grants of between £10,000 and £25,000 are expected to be awarded.

The following conditions apply to the Fund:

o All funded programmes must be completed by March 2023.
o Applicants will be required to submit quarterly reports to Best Beginnings in line with the reporting requirements.
o Organisations in receipt of funding from the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS)  must declare this and highlight that the Safer Beginnings programme will be separate from current funding from DCMS.
o Research can be included in a proposal but projects that only undertake research will not be eligible for grant support.
o Safer Beginnings funding cannot be for more than 30% of an applicant’s last year’s annual turnover.
o VAT is not covered in the funding and cannot be claimed, 
and
o Where the proposed activity includes content creation for Baby Buddy 2.0, the IP of this content will belong to Best Beginnings. If you plan to use the content outside of Baby Buddy you must indicate where and how, and what added value this will bring.

The application schedule is as follows:

1. Application deadline: 10am on 24th March 2022.
2. Shortlisted applications notified: by 5pm on Friday 1st April 2022.
3. Shortlisted applicants Pitch Day: Friday 8th April 2022.
4. Public announcement of successful applicants: Monday 25th April 2022.
5. Funded projects completed by: Friday 31st March 2023.
