During Volunteers' Week 2017, the PAVO Big Volunteer Thank You Bus visited 15 locations in Powys, covering 450 miles in five days. The weather threw everything at us but we had a fabulous time. The volunteers we met and the stories they told were amazing. We met some 250 volunteers, 3 Mayors, several County Councilors, firemen and a volunteer dog. We ate lots of cakes and chocolate, and gave out thank you certificates and goody bags. The chocolates and goodies were all kindly donated by Hay and Brecon Co-op.

Welcome to the Powys Volunteer Centre, your gateway to volunteering. We work with individuals, voluntary organisations, community groups and public sector organisations to promote voluntary work and to support individuals to find volunteer placements that suit their needs.
The aim of this section of the website is to provide information for new and existing volunteers and for organisations who already work with or are intending to work with volunteers.
A volunteer is a person engaged in an activity which involves spending unpaid time, doing something which benefits some third party other than or in addition to a close relative.
Although unpaid, volunteers may receive travel and other approved out-of-pocket expenses.
Volunteers can help to drive vehicles for community transport schemes, help to run sports clubs, organise play activities for children, improve the physical environment, help in a charity shop or be a trustee of an organisation.
The list of activities is endless. Volunteering can take place from the home, in the community or overseas.
