
What do drivers get out of this?
Drivers who successfully complete the MiDAS training programme will receive a nationally recognised certificate, as well as the comprehensive MiDAS Driver's Handbook. MiDAS provides both classroom-based theory training and an on-road driving assessment for all drivers, additional training is provided for those drivers assisting wheelchair passengers.
Regular refresher training is a significant element of MiDAS, in order to retain your MiDAS Certificate, drivers must attend refresher training every four years.
Standard MiDAS
Drivers attend a morning or afternoon theory training session looking at the following subjects;
Driver licensing
Driving for safety and economy
Walk-round checks
Reversing and manoeuvring
Minibus law
Fitness to drive
Breakdowns, collisions and emergency evacuation
A multiple choice theory paper is completed at the end of the session. The on road driving assessment lasts a little over an hour.
Accessible MiDAS
Drivers attend an additional theory session looking at the following subjects:
Theory and background information for safe transportation of passengers with
disabilities.
Practical demonstrations on how to assist passengers who:
Have walking difficulties
Have a visual impairment
Demonstration and supervised practice assisting wheelchair users
Practical Skills Assessment
Use a passenger lift or ramp
Secure wheelchair user in minibus.
