Communities First is the Welsh Assembly Government's flagship programme to address issues of social exclusion. It aims to develop communities by involving local people in new and innovative ways in order to address deep seated problems that have not responded to conventional interventions. The programme is long term - 10-20 years - and it welcomes innovative, creative, flexible approaches to solving the areas' problems.
On the 8th November 2007 the three Communities First areas in Powys held their first Conference - this was entitled
Partnership Working - Building Communities To Be Proud Of.
Over 80 people from all over Powys gathered at the Royal Welsh Showground to witness Mark Kerr, Chief Executive of Powys County Council, Dr.Julie Bishop, Director of Public Health, Powys Local Health Board, and Chief Superintendent Steve Mears, Divisional Commander Dyfed Powys Police renew their commitment to joint working in the Communities First programme in Powys.
The day also promoted and celebrated the hard work and activities being carried out by the teams working in each of the Communities First areas in Powys using presentations, workshops and discussions.
