CAB – Debt Advice

Funded by the Money Advice Service, Powys Citizens Advice continues to deliver free face to face debt advice from its four premises throughout Powys. Specialist Advisers can assist clients with all types of debts problems, Debt Relief Orders and Bankruptcy. Clients can be referred by organisations using a referral form which can be obtained from Powys CAB or self refer by telephoning 0845 601 8421 Mon, Thurs, Friday 10am to 3pm. During 2010/11 Powys CAB negotiated £8.million debt issues on behalf of clients. The intention is to use this page to keep our volunteers and partners updated with what is going on with the project and to draw people's attention to any current volunteering opportunities that are available.
If you are a volunteer you can use the page to keep up to date with volunteering opportunities, training courses and social events.
If you are a local charity or community organisation you can e-mail us details of your volunteering needs, events, projects etc and we will post them to our page. You can, of course, visit the page and post directly onto our wall, but please make sure you are cautious about posting any personal details or contact numbers etc.
If you are a health professional you can use the page to get an idea of what kind of opportunities are available for any of your patients/clients.

Raising dough is a piece of cake for Rhayader pupils

Pupils at Rhayader Church in Wales Primary School celebrated supporting Bake for Bobath for their third year in 2012 raising £108.60. The cash will help fund Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales which supports children with cerebral palsy from across Wales. The baking fundraiser is part of a Wales-wide campaign launched by the centre in which schools, organisations and individuals hold cake sales to raise money. Bake for Bobath is held every year during the week of St David’s Day, and will help towards raising £850,000 that Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales needs to continue providing specialist Bobath therapy to children throughout Wales who have cerebral palsy. Community Fundraising Coordinator, Nia Richards says “Bake for Bobath has really grown over the last years raising over £45,000 since it begun in 2006. We are really hoping to make it the biggest Welsh cake bake for charity, and it’s great to have the continued support of schools like Rhayader Primary School”.

The SMVB are entering a new phase with the appointment of Damien Archer our new Development Officer. Damien has the enthusiasm and drive to modernise this important service to the South Montgomeryshire area. Damien endeavours to transform the bureau into the primary place for volunteering opportunities. The South Montgomeryshire Volunteer Bureau is the principal organisation for volunteering in the region. We have a high quality volunteer induction process and professional support systems in place to ensure that volunteers get the most out of their time with us. Our role is to find meaningful and worthwhile volunteer opportunities and also advise on and promote good volunteering practice to other organisations. SMVB are currently looking for help in manning our office at Plas Dolerw and have some very rewarding opportunities available. A national awareness campaign is being launched by the online charity
Giving World Online over the next few weeks which will benefit
charities and community groups around the UK.

Now is the time for charities and community groups to register to be
able to access those goods. As goods become available on the Giving
World Online website, only those charities and community groups
already registered will have immediate access.

Giving World Online is a charity set up to offer a simple solution for
companies with surplus goods to dispose of. They register with Giving
World Online and publicise their goods onto charities and community
groups who can access the items free of charge to support the people
they work with.

A television advert is due to be broadcast on Discovery Networks in
April, targeted at engaging more businesses to support the work of UK
charities and community groups helping people in need by donating
unwanted goods and equipment through the website.

The book-keeping service includes recording payments and receipts, drawing up income and expenditure accounts, advice on financial systems regulations. The payroll service is fully computerised and once set up only requires you to pay your employees, pay the relevant taxes and check and sign the annual return. All else is taken care of. Mid Powys Mind - New Counselling Service Launched.

Mid Powys Mind has launched a new free of charge counselling service in Llandrindod Wells. What is Counselling For? Anyone can suffer emotional distress at some point in their lives. It can take courage to face up to this and approach someone for help. Most people feel they benefit from talking treatments and find that sometimes it's good just to get something off their chest. Many people have found that counselling has helped them to change their lives for the better. Counselling At Mid Powys Mind The service is provided by trainee counsellors who are members of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and work within their code of ethics. The style is currently available on Mondays and Wednesdays.
