The Park Day Centre in Newtown was the scene of an amazing volunteering project on the 17th May.
A group of 11 volunteers took on the overgrown gardens and took out old shrubs and generally tidied up. The group of women all work for the same organisation had asked the Powys Volunteer Centre to find them a volunteering project. Thanks to a suggestion by Cllr Joy Jones the Day Centre then was approached and the day was set. The aim is to make the garden dementia friendly and this day was all about clearing the garden to a blank canvas so the landscaping and replanting could begin. The team certainly got on with it and did a huge amount of work, the Powys Volunteer Centre Officer joined them as the only man but the day definitely belonged to the girls. Cakes and fabulous scones were provided by the Day Centre Staff.
