Local Safeguarding Children's Board

The Childen Act 2004 strengthens the arrangements for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. It places a duty on all local authorities in Wales to make arrangements to promote co-operation with a view to improving the welfare of children in their area in relation to;physical and mental health and emotional well-being, protection from harm and neglect, education, training and recreation, the contribution made by them to society, social and economic well-being.All partner agencies working with children in Powys are represented on the Powys LSCB. All partners have a duty to co-operate to fulfil their responsibility to contribute fully and effectively to the work of the LSCB.

Powys Local Safeguarding Children Board was set up under s31 of the Adoption and Children Act 2004.Its functions are:

  • To be responsible for broad policy and strategic development
  • To foster a relationship of mutual trust and understanding
  • To raise awareness both across agencies and within the wider community including faith and minority ethnic communities.
  • To identify and act upon concerns about child safety and welfare
  • To help those children who have suffered or are at continuing risk of significant harm in order to safeguard such children and promote their welfare
  • To develop and agree local policies and procedures for inter-agency work
  • To review the effectiveness of the measures taken by each of the Board partners
  • To establish clear links to other partnerships, eg Community Safety partnership, Children's Framework Partnership.
