The isolated rural nature of much of Powys means that many people have great difficulties in getting to health facilities. The location of all District General Hospitals outside the county has exacerbated these difficulties. The Partnership was established in April, 2002 to bring together those organisations with an interest in transport and health to discuss and address these difficulties. The partnership has representation from Powys County Council, Powys Teaching Health Board, Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations, Powys Community Health Councils, Welsh Ambulance Trust and Powys Community Transport Forum. The Partnership is chaired by the County Councillor representing the Technical and Local Services Directorate on the Powys Board.
Among the achievements of the Partnership are:-
The organisation of a conference on transport, health and wellbeing in Powys in October, 2002. The production of a strategy document 'A Strategy for Transport, Health & Wellbeing in Powys' in March, 2003. Involvement in the development of the non urgent patient transport co-ordination unit based in Newtown Hospital, Newtown. Developing a core funding proposal under which Powys CT Schemes would received long term core funding from Powys County Council and Powys Teaching Health Board related to a Service Level Agreement specifying the service to be delivered.
