The Healthy Heart Grants scheme supports new and innovative projects designed to promote heart health and to prevent or reduce the risks of heart disease in specific groups or communities. Grants are not awarded for general healthy lifestyle projects.Not-for-profit organisation in the UK may apply for grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 in specific regions across the UK, including the West Country. Match funding isn't an essential requirement, although some element of funding from other sources is welcomed.Projects must focus on, and actively promote, heart health or reduce the risk of heart disease for the duration of the project.The cost of travel may be included in a Healthy Heart Grant application provided it forms a necessary and integral part of the Healthy Heart project.The costs of attending meetings and conferences may also be covered if the necessary supporting documentation is included in the application.Any equipment bought must be used for the Healthy Heart project only. The cost cannot exceed 50% of the total amount of the grant application or £2,000 in total.In exceptional circumstances, where a project has a very strong heart element applications may be considered from researchers.Projects must run for between six and 12 months.Private enterprise and government, local authority, public sector or organisations funded with public money are not eligible to apply. Funding cannot be used for:o General health projects: activities must be specifically linked to heart issues and tackling heart disease;

  • Salary costs not related to Healthy Heart projects;
  • Grant holder overheads or management fees;
  • Capital costs such as buidings or repairs; 
  • Organisational running costs; or
  • Existing or continuation projects.

The West Country programme opens on 17 September 2017 and closes on 14 November 2017.Other area opening and closing dates in date order are:

o Scotland - 2 May to 4 July;
o Tyne Tees - 15 May to 17 July;
o Granada - 15 May to 17 July;
o Carlton - 19 June to 18 August;
o Meridian - 10 July to 1 September;
o Anglia - 10 July to 1 September;
o Yorkshire - 24 July to 8 September;
o Northern Ireland - 14 August to 29 September;
o Central - 21 August to 13 October;
o HTV - 27 September to 14 November; and
o Wales - 27 September to 14 November.
